Michelle King-Green Enters Ward 6 City Council Race Focused on Community Engagement

The race to succeed Warwick City Councilman William Muto in Ward 6 has begun to take shape as Oakland Beach resident Michelle King-Green has entered the contest, bringing a background in parent advocacy, community involvement, and neighborhood engagement to the campaign.

A relative newcomer to politics, King-Green moved to Warwick in 2021 with her husband, Alfred Green III, and their two sons. While she has never held elected office, she said her decision to run grew from years of involvement with schools, parent organizations, and community groups.

"I never imagined I would run for office," King-Green said. "But through my work with schools, families, and community organizations, I realized how important it is for people to feel heard. I love this community, and I want to help make sure residents have a voice in its future."

Born in Providence, King-Green works in medical billing and credentialing. Her introduction to advocacy came while raising her family in Cranston, where she became involved in the Parent Teacher Organization after concerns about communication from the school district. Over time, her involvement expanded into leadership roles that brought her into regular discussions with school officials, administrators, and other parents on issues affecting students and families.

Those experiences, she said, reinforced her belief that successful organizations depend on communication, accessibility, and public engagement.

Since moving to Warwick, King-Green has become involved in community organizations and neighborhood initiatives throughout Oakland Beach. She said conversations with longtime residents have helped shape her understanding of both the neighborhood's history and the challenges facing the city today.

"I love my community," King-Green said. "I talk to neighbors who have lived here for decades, listen to their stories, and hear about how Oakland Beach has changed over the years. As our community continues to grow, I believe we can embrace new opportunities while preserving the character and identity that make this neighborhood special."

King-Green identified community engagement, affordability, and responsible growth as the primary issues driving her campaign.

She said local government should be visible and responsive, with residents given meaningful opportunities to participate in decisions affecting their neighborhoods. She also pointed to the financial pressures facing homeowners, renters, seniors, and working families as an issue that requires thoughtful planning and responsible spending.

"I think a lot about what the future will look like for my boys," King-Green said. "Will they be able to afford a home? Will they be able to build a life here? I want them to have the same opportunities that so many families before us had. That means making thoughtful decisions today while protecting what makes Warwick special."

King-Green also emphasized environmental stewardship and preserving the character of Warwick's neighborhoods. A longtime supporter of local environmental initiatives, she said protecting green space and maintaining the city's connection to its natural resources must remain part of future planning efforts.

As the campaign begins, King-Green said she plans to spend the coming months meeting with residents throughout Ward 6 and listening to their concerns.

"I don't have all the answers," King-Green said. "But I believe leadership starts with listening. My goal is simple: show up, be present, and make sure people feel heard."

The Ward 6 seat became open following Councilman William Muto's decision to seek the District 23 House seat being vacated by House Speaker Joseph Shekarchi. King-Green joins what is expected to be one of Warwick's most closely watched municipal races.
