Michelle King-Green Announces Candidacy for Warwick City Council, Ward 6

MICHELLE KING-GREEN ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR WARWICK CITY COUNCIL, WARD 6

Oakland Beach resident, community advocate, and parent enters the race focused on community engagement, affordability, and preserving Warwick's neighborhood character.

WARWICK, R.I. — Michelle King-Green announced today that she is seeking election to the Warwick City Council representing Ward 6, pledging to bring a community-centered approach to local government focused on listening to residents, protecting neighborhood character, and aiming to keep Warwick affordable for working families, seniors, and future generations.

A resident of Oakland Beach since 2021, King-Green enters the race after years of involvement in schools, parent organizations, and neighborhood associations. She says her decision to run grew out of a desire to ensure residents feel heard and connected to the decisions shaping their neighborhoods.

"I never imagined I would run for office," King-Green said. "But through my work with schools, families, and community organizations, I realized how important it is for people to feel heard. I love this community, and I want to help make sure residents have a voice in its future."

Born in Providence, King-Green built her career in medical billing and credentialing while raising her family with her husband, Alfred Green III. Her involvement in public service began as a parent volunteer in Cranston schools, where she became active in the PTO and later served in leadership roles advocating for students, families, and stronger communication between schools and the community.

Since moving to Warwick, King-Green has become involved in community organizations and neighborhood initiatives throughout Oakland Beach, developing a deep appreciation for the neighborhood’s history, character, and strong sense of pride.

“I love my community,” King-Green said. “I talk to neighbors who have lived here for decades, listen to their stories, and hear about how Oakland Beach has changed over the years. As our community continues to grow, I believe we can embrace new opportunities while preserving the character and identity that make this neighborhood special.”

King-Green identified three priorities that will guide her campaign:

Community Engagement and AccessibilityKing-Green says local government should be visible, approachable, and responsive. If elected, she plans to prioritize community meetings and neighborhood outreach to ensure residents have a voice in local decision-making. 

Affordability and Responsible SpendingKing-Green supports thoughtful investment in city services and schools while remaining mindful of rising costs facing homeowners, renters, seniors, and working families.

Responsible Growth and Environmental StewardshipKing-Green believes Warwick's future depends on balancing development with preservation. She supports protecting green space, maintaining neighborhood character, and ensuring future development reflects the needs of both current and future residents.

“I think a lot about what the future will look like for my boys,” King-Green said. “Will they be able to afford a home? Will they be able to build a life here? I want them to have the same opportunities that so many families before us had. That means making thoughtful decisions today while protecting what makes Warwick special.”

King-Green said she will spend the coming months meeting with residents throughout Ward 6 to hear their concerns and build a campaign rooted in community participation.

"I don't have all the answers," King-Green said. "But I believe leadership starts with listening. My goal is simple: show up, be present, and make sure people feel heard.”
